The Zen Bench Garden

Roz and Mattieu's small garden in Windmill Hill needed the decking and sleeper beds replacing. It was an opportunity to redevelop the space to create a more interesting and useable garden. After installing the new deck and sleepers, a bespoke curving bench was made with a planted up backdrop.

Other features of the new garden included a raised pond, new venetian style fencing and a green roof bike store.

With the garden situated in a shady position, the appropriate plant species needed to be considered. Japanese anemones, an Acer, ferns and ground cover pachysandra was planted as well as a small silver birch tree.

Over time, the planting around the curved bench will fill out, creating a sense of enclosure within the main seating space.
