The Forest Path Garden
Russell and Carla were looking to create a country lane style garden, where nature would be allowed to spill over into the hard landscaping. The aim was to make the long and narrow garden feel more spacious by dividing it up into a number of sections. A generous seating area was created next to the house with numerous planting beds, including a herb growing area.

A dry stone effect wall separated this space from the rest of the garden. Past the low wall, a long snaking clay paver path was built with a number of points of interest on route. Firstly a nature pond, then a bike store with built in green roof and finally a circular patterned seating area under the shade of a large plum tree. The areas in between were planted with shade loving species amongst the existing mature shrubs and trees.

A very naturalistic planting scheme was created for this garden. There were two distinct zones; a sunny seating area and a more shady path area.
The sunny seating area near the house was planted up with herbs as well as perennials such as scabious and knautia. Some evergreen structural species were introduced too including lavender and hebe plants.
The planting then transitioned slowly with more shade loving species introduced further down the garden. Brunnera, foxgloves, rogersia and ferns were all planted below the established trees and shrubs.
