The Dry Stone Wall Garden
Val wanted a low maintenance garden which would be easy to get around. She wanted it to be a space that could be enjoyed by her family and her dog. The original garden was built over 3 levels and the natural stone walls were falling apart. The redesign changed this to a two levelled garden with wide steps leading from the main seating area up to the lawn, pergola and planting borders. Reusing the existing stone, we created a curving retaining wall.. Bespoke cut coping stones on the wall matched the paving material.
The planting scheme was simple yet full. Plenty of evergreens including lavender, hebe, yew and laurel were planting to give year round interest. these species are easy to look after and shape. Various white hydrangea species as well as sedums were planted between the evergreens. Trees such as rowan and birch were also incorporated.
An orb water feature was installed next to the pergola seating area.
Over time as the shrubs grow, the two levels of the garden will become partially visibly separated. This will help to create intrigue and help to divide the space making it more interesting.
